Elizabeth M. (Winter) Richey

Elizabeth M "Beth" Richey, 52, of Manhattan, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at her residence.

She was born on June 8, 1952, in Manhattan, the daughter of Donald Carl and Wilma Irene (Gros) Winter.

She was raised in Manhattan and was a 1970 graduate of Manhattan High School.

On Aug. 22, 1970, she was united in marriage to Hugh Hoyt Richey at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. He was in the military and together they lived in Germany, Texas and Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Winter in 1985

In 1994, Mrs. Richey returned to Manhattan, where she was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

Her family said she enjoyed working crossword puzzles and loved animals, especially her dog Zelda. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by four children, Archie H. Richey, Tony D. Richey and Sara D. Richey, all of Manhattan, and Jordan R. Johnson of Lathrop, Mo.; her father, Donald Winter and wife Betty of Manhattan; five brothers, John Winter of Waterloo, N.Y., Gary Winter of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dave Winter of Manhattan, Dan Winter of Overland Park, Patty Jones of Lawrence, Teresa Wilson of Lawrence, and Jim Winter of Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving is her granddaughter, Ella Jo Hessenflow of Manhattan; and her father-in-law, Hardee Richey and wife Ruth of Braymer, Mo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan with Father Lawrence Grennan as celebrant. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Braymer, Mo.

A Rosary and Wake service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with a visitation to follow until 8 p.m.
